PUBG Mobile ban effect: PUBG alternatives get massive surge in downloads

PUBG Mobile is an Free-to-Play Online Mobile Multiplayer Battle Royal Game developed by PUBG Corporation for Android and iOS and was released in India by September of 2018.

PUBG Mobile and PUBG Mobile Lite were not banned in the first phase of ban of 59 Chinese Apps, although it was banned in the Second Phase of Ban, The 118 apps banned by the government earlier this month also included a few PUBG alternatives like Rules of Survival, Cyber Hunter, Knives Out, and others. The ban led to a massive increase in the downloads of the current alternatives available like Call of Duty Mobile, Garena Free Fire, and others.

By the Time of Ban PUBG was one of the most played and Downloaded game on both Android and iOS Platforms with over 100 Millions of Downloads and 30 Millions Active Players on Android and around 100 Millions of Downloads on iOS, with 4+/5 star rating on both platforms.



PUBG Mobile Ban effect: Garena Free Fire recorded a total of 500 million downloads during this period with whereas Call of Duty Mobile has 100+ million downloads by this time.

The ban on PUBG Mobile turned out to be a blessing in disguise for other shooting FPS games available on smart-phones. Players trying to find the alternative and other FPS games trying to fill the void left behind by PUBG Mobile, one of the most popular smartphone game in the world, players tried their hand best from all over the world at similar battle Royal games since it was removed from Play Store and Apple App Store.

During the period between September 2 and 5, Multiple reports by Many Analyst revealed that Garena Free Fire and Call of Duty Mobile were among the top three downloaded games on the both iOS and Android devices. The third game was Ludo King which has seen have a massive surge in downloads during the lockdown due to the Covid-19 pandemic with the downloads more the 100+ Millions.

 

This sudden surge also made Garena Free Fire the top free and grossing game on the Play Store this month and Ludo King to be holding 3rd position on the top Free downloads with 100+ Millions of Downloads


However, all hopes are not yet to be lost for PUBG players and streamers as South Korea-based PUBG Corporation has said they are working with the Government of India to resolve the issue by disassociating itself from Chinese corporation Tencent Games in India which says that Tencent Games will no longer be associated in anyways with PUBG.

The Official Blog of PUBG Corporation post noted as “PUBG Corporation fully understands and respects the measures taken by the government as the privacy and security of player data is a top priority for the company. It hopes to work hand-in-hand with the Indian government to find a solution that will allow gamers to once again drop into the battlegrounds while being fully compliant with Indian laws and regulations.
